Derek Sanderson Jeter was drafted by the New York Yankees in the first round of the 1992 MLB Draft as a shortstop out of Kalamazoo Central High School. Jeter went on to spend 20 MLB seasons with the Yankees as their starting shortstop where he became the 11th captain in team history in 2003. Jeter has countless accolades including Rookie of the Year, 14 All Star selections, 5 Gold Glove Awards, 5 Silver Slugger Awards, 2 Hank Aarom Awards, 1 Roberto Clemente Award, 5 World Series Championships, 3,465 hits, and a first ballot Hall of Famer receiving 396/397 votes. Jeter was known for his defensive ability which include the iconic "The Flip" and also "The Dive". He was also known as their leadoff hitter and one of only three players to hit a homerun for their 3,000th hit on July 9th, 2011. Jeter retired in 2014 and went on to become CEO and shareholder of the Miami Marlins in 2017 and recently stepped down from this position in February 2022.
