Donald Arthur Mattingly was drafted in 1979 by the New York Yankees out of Reitz Memorial High School in Evansville, Indiana. Mattingly went on to play all 14 seasons of his career with the Yankees as their starting first baseman. "Donnie Baseball" went on to win 9 Gold Glove Awards (AL record), 3 Silver Slugger Awards, the 1984 batting title, the 1985 AL MVP, and was selected to the AL All Star Team 6 times. Mattingly served as the captain of the Yankees from 1991-1995 when he officially retired from playing baseball. He is the only player in Yankees history to have his number 23 retired without winning a championship with the team. His career within the MLB didn't end there as he went on to be a coach for the Yankees in 2004, manager for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2011, and manager of the Miami Marlins in 2016. In 2015, Mattingly won the NL Manager of the Year Award with the Marlins where he is still the manager to this day.
