In 1901, the legacy of the New York Yankees started, but not as you would think. The Yankees originally started in the American League as the Baltimore Orioles, which has no connection to today's Baltimore Orioles. This only lasted a short while as they moved location and changed names to the New York Highlanders in 1903, playing in Upper Manhattan alongside the New York Giants of the National League. In 1913, the Highlanders finally got their iconic name "The New York Yankees" while playing at the historical Polo Grounds. Since then, the Yankees went on to win 27 World Championships while playing in numerous stadiums, most recently Yankee Stadium in The Bronx. Over that time period, there were numerous, infamous players to wear the pinstripes including Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Don Mattingly, Derek Jeter, and many more.
